Current Contractor - Anonymous Contractor in Dallas, TX
Current Contractor - Anonymous Contractor in Dallas, TX

I have been working at Dean Foods as a contractor (less than a year)

Pros

Great company to work for and great people to work with. Very good opportunities and a pleasure to come to work each day.

Cons

Most workers are contract and they seem ok with that and it's just the nature of the business to be concerned about your future.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please keep up the great work and remember that your workers are the most important asset.

I have been working at Dean Foods full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Health Care Benefits and Customer Service to Vendors.

    Cons

If you like to get paid salaried 40 hours per week, and work 80 hours per with with no overtime pay, no family life balance, this is the place for you. Hours are from 4am to 7pm
Management say they will fix, but that just to make you happy at the moment.
Co-workers are very frustrated with all the work, milk orders are cut, then the customer screams at you because they did not get their delivery on time
This job would not be bad if Routes were managed correctly. I don't mind working extra, but 4-5 hours sleep is not enough for a driver.

Get ready to come home to a sleeping family and wake up to a sleeping family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you say your are going to make changes, take the actions to make the change and stop taking your employees for granted. Without the employees there is no business.

A company on a downward spiral going fast

I worked at Dean Foods full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Outside appears like a strong company headed towards a bright future. Promising opportunities of growth and continuation on with company. Strong value set company at first but lately don't expect that.

    Cons

Cut throat environment as the remaining fluid facilities work on figuring out who is next to close and what they can do to get a leg up on another fluid facility in the area. Budget freezes since sell off in January for each month being too high over cost. Threats of closures by the week. No stability as most supervisors were pulling 50-60 hours a week while management did their 40 and left. No communication from upper management down leaving supervisors to wonder whats going on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at your plants and actually walk into them. Most need help but because its too expensive is overlook and can cause problems especially if a separator goes down or pasteurizer due to lack of routine maintenance work. Plus communication is a big thing as how are your supervisors to run a plant if managers make it a point to not notify supervisors of anything in regards to operations for the day.
