Pros

Degenkolb is a great company, they do good business and treat their employees well. It's a good work environment and they offer perks like a nice cafe, soda fountain, and catered lunch meetings. They're transparent about financials and what's going on with the company, keeping employees in the loop.

Cons

Degenkolb hires smart people but a lot of people tend to have a superiority complex...especially some of the older engineers. Admin and corporate services are not treated with sufficient respect.

Advice to Management

Engineers and non-engineers should be rewarded the same and offer a more flexible work environment.

    Pros

Degenkolb is a highly regarded firm especially when you're coming out of school. The company is supportive of professional memberships if you're into that stuff.

    Cons

It is a little top heavy with the number of principals and associate principals. The work could be fairly mundane is you get stuck doing one seismic evaluation after another.

    Advice to Management

More different types of work besides seismic evaluations and designing hospitals. We get all kinds of industry journals that show cutting edge designs but we don't do anything like that.

    Pros

Free lunches, Great communication from senior management regarding financials and goals, Xmas parties, Professional development, Encouragement of Lifelong Learning. I have learned a lot from my time at Degenkolb. It is a firm that expects a lot from everyone, as most employees are ivy league graduates with masters and above. The company is very well run. They hold monthly firmwide meetings that explain financials and goals, very transparent -which a lot of companies could learn from. Chris Poland was a great CEO and is a very approachable, nice guy. They encourage professional development, which is good. Some nice people.

    Cons

Dry corporate culture, certain senior principals who are allowed to treat people as they please with no repurcussions. Not a friendly place to work. Trying to talk to one or two other principals can be like approaching Darth Vader when he is in a bad mood - awful, egotistical, mean, condescending. Deadlines can be daunting and there are very stressful, overloaded times when you feel emotionally exhausted, overworked, underappreciated. After a few years, people start treating you like a person but by then, you are so burnt out you could care less. Very little respect for non-technical staff, it can be very demoralizing. You have to prove yourself here and by the time you have, you are completely exhausted. Not really a fun place to work if you are young, although they have been hiring a lot of younger people lately.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work with the planning. Promote a friendlier culture.
