I have been working at Dell

Pros

A very fast moving company that challenges you every day. I hear plenty of complaints that it isn't what it used to be but those people have been with Dell the whole time and don't realize it is still better than 99% of the other places to work outr there. Pay attention to all of the new hire training classes and see how many return to Dell...the grass isn't always greener.

Cons

As quickly as the company moves to keep up with the IT industry, it can be challenging to change internal momentum and get new things done in terms of implementing processes.

This place is a bit shy of a concentration camp

I have been working at Dell

    Pros

The have great sales training and the co-workers are fun for the most part. Great benefits.

    Cons

Whoever keeps saying good work/life better must have never been in sales at Dell. You rarely spend quality time with family because of sporadic hours and mandatory overtime. This place is a joke....they call it sales but it is mainly ordertaking all the while getting screamed at by customers who are sick of talking to people in India. Some managers are in their postions just because Dell didn't have anywhere else to put them or they need to meet the diversity rule. They are unprofessional and act the gestapo. Every call is monitored and most by people that can't speak clear English. If you are 5 seconds late from a break or lunch (which you are told when to go on), you get reprimanded. There is no personal space given. This place is for a kid that needs guidance in the workplace, not for a professional adult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat adults as adults and get off your power trip. There is a reason that people prefer HP over Dell and why HP stock is significantly higher than Dell.....look at yourselves and who you promote into middle management. You have really good employees that are leaving to go elsewhere because they consider Dell a prison.

Not a good place for experienced engineers

    I worked at Dell

    Pros

It's a good place if you are starting off your career - You will have an opportunity to own and do a lot of work and grow your skillset.

    Cons

Once you are a little experienced, it is time to get out because Engineering is not valued in the company and you will not have any realistic long term career opportunities. Benefits for experienced folks are also terrible compared to other Engineering companies in terms of RSUs, and other long term incentives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can no longer be a business model company. Without innovation and R&D your company will not grow. You are no longer playing in a price sensitive market. Start valuing your engineers and provide them with realistic career opportunities.
