Pros

Dell has programs to ensure work/life balance is satisfied like most other large corporations do. I was in marketing, and the workload can be hectic at times, but results from your impact tend to be rewarding. Dell, in practice, is evolving from a hardware pusher with a transactional workforce to a solution provider with a consultative approach.

Cons

Dell has a lot of lifers, and you'll find that they have not evolved their thinking with the company topline messaging. Being in software at Dell has its challenges because culturally, hardware still rules. HW is low margin with lots of overhead, and the culture needs to change to put SW and services on top.

Advice to Management

Dell is evolving, and middle management needs to really foster that transition to solution-selling. Help employees move to their next spot in a constructive environment conducive to learning.

    Pros

Plenty of room for growth, most people are smart and willing to help, great work life balance

    Cons

Disorganized at times- i think that is what happens at such a large compant. Leadership does seem to becoming more alligned.

  2. When the business is doing well, it's great...if numbers are off, watch out.

    Pros

Dell gives you a lot of responsibility and you are asked to know a lot. There is never a dull moment and work can be exciting and fast paced. When you're hitting your numbers you can make some good money. It's great experience. You also get work from home options.

    Cons

Upper management can be guardrail to guardrail and there can be different "flavor of the weeks". If the business isn't hitting it's number be prepared for micro management.

    Advice to Management

Stick with the long term plan and invest in the resources, processes and compensation structure to truly motivate the workforce.
