Pros

Dell has programs to ensure work/life balance is satisfied like most other large corporations do. I was in marketing, and the workload can be hectic at times, but results from your impact tend to be rewarding. Dell, in practice, is evolving from a hardware pusher with a transactional workforce to a solution provider with a consultative approach.

Cons

Dell has a lot of lifers, and you'll find that they have not evolved their thinking with the company topline messaging. Being in software at Dell has its challenges because culturally, hardware still rules. HW is low margin with lots of overhead, and the culture needs to change to put SW and services on top.

Advice to Management

Dell is evolving, and middle management needs to really foster that transition to solution-selling. Help employees move to their next spot in a constructive environment conducive to learning.

    Pros

Plenty of room for growth, most people are smart and willing to help, great work life balance

    Cons

Disorganized at times- i think that is what happens at such a large compant. Leadership does seem to becoming more alligned.

    Pros

Can move relatively easily across functional organizations Meritocracy is largely there Decent execution for a company this size Can effect change if you are motivated

    Cons

Many top and seasoned performers have left Culture was damaged through constant shift of jobs to lowest cost countries Executive leadership positions were given to outsiders for many years Constant reorganizations Core competencies were outsourced long ago Guardrail to guardrail management on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis

    Advice to Management

Take on fast follower mentality of the 90s as company is at critical point
