Pros

Competitive salary, challenging work, management appreciated my contributions, flexible hours, good benefits, 401K match was excellent, supervisors were fair and easy to talk to

Cons

I honestly cannot say that were any negatives about working for Dell. It was one of the best jobs I ever had.

Advice to Management

My only advice would be to lump all the Paid Time Off into one pot to use as the employee needed to

    Pros

Individually people are very nice; small discounts on computers is a nice benefit

    Cons

Most employees are treated as grist for the mill with little regard for basic personal consideration. Pity, used to be a really great place until GE management invaded. Employees are more likely to be pitted against each other as in a cockfight under the guise of "competition" than to be treated fairly based on their individual merits.

    Advice to Management

    Return to your root values

    Pros

Career mobility is decent provided you are lucky enough to be hitting your quota and know the right hiring managers. Wages are decent depending on your role.

    Cons

Dell business sales is possessed by a culture of overwhelming negativity and diffusion of responsibility. Compensation gaps lead to cutthroat competition between the major sales groups. As Dell acquires companies the sales processes and tools grow increasingly numerous and complex. The quotas gotten way out of hand and punish the best reps severely for their previous success. Your days are filled with unproductive conference calls in which you must repeatedly explain your sales opportunities to a multitude of superfluous inside reps and account executives who add little to no value. Interdepartmental mobility feels impossible. Hiring freezes and headcount issues make you feel trapped in your position.

    Advice to Management

Compensation and quota setting need a complete overhaul. Sales reps should feel rewarded for their success not wary of drastic quota increases. The sales groups should be allowed to work together as a team there should never be a situation in which a sales rep is forced to recommend a product based on whether they are compensated or not. Finally, the best reps should be moved into the best territories, often times attainments don't tell the whole story.
