I worked at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Great entry-level salary, and opportunity for promotion if you're careful about directing your own internal career progression.

Cons

The more your target compensation increases, the harder it becomes to consistently attain quota. Hard to know which are the right moves and get the timing right. Felt very much like just another cog in the corporate machine. People get lost in the equation.

Advice to Management

Meritocracy should not be just about who landed a lucky big deal this quarter. Please make some effort to recognize consistent performers and high NPS scores. They are really more critical to Dell's long-term success.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Have had several managers at Dell, and with the short exception of one (only lasted a month), all have been excellent.

    Cons

Current Sales Leadership (Felice) seems over their head. First time I've ever heard a salesforce blamed on an open investor's conference call. By all accounts an effective manager prior to this role, but certainly no Paul Bell.

    Advice to Management

Transition Felice back into a more tactical role.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great atmosphere and relatively laid-back at lower levels. Lots of opportunity to develop innovative solutions to problems. Large opportunity to take on more responsibilities.

    Cons

Low pay. Excessive barriers to information and red tape. Large disconnect between high-level management and lower-level workers. Excessive departmental interdependence, leading to frequent delays in projects.

    Advice to Management

Advice to Senior Management – Be more open to suggestions from lower-level employees as to how day-to-day activities can be more productive. Allow departments greater autonomy with regards to access to information.
