I have been working at Dell full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Still looking for some pros. If you want to disappear in the cracks, not produce, and collect a paycheck, this is the place for you

    Cons

    Oh where to begin...
    Software - junk
Hardware - junk (it says a lot when so many people use Macs)
    Management - junk
    Leadership - nonexistent

This place operates more like a branch of the federal government than a business out to make money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the 18 layers of management between the people who produce and the people who make decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't hire smart, innovative people. They have no place in a sweat shop culture. If Dell is devolving into nothing more than a service provider who also happens to sell hardware, don't advertise yourself as a technology company. Either hire people into the right roles based on merit, or do everyone a favor and just hire your basic underachieving slacker off the street who can take orders well. During my tenure, that's all I saw in almost every department at Dell Plano. People desperate to seem important and smart, but could barely operate PowerPoint and had absolutely no desire to raise the bar. The company slogan is more widely becoming known as "The Power to Do Less." I have never in the last decade encountered such incompetent management. They do nothing to keep the talent in or the psychos out.
