Pros

The benefit plan is really good. You get about 6 weeks of vacation right off the bat, which is great. This is also a good resume builder.

Cons

VERY stressful environment. Even if you hit your goal, there is always something you need to work on. They make it very tough to hit goals as well as get all of the bonuses that are available. As soon as you consistently find a way to hit the goals, they change the rules of the game to make it more difficult. There is almost no job security because if you have a bad quarter, they have no problem ushering you out of the door regardless of past performance. Dell is pretty much a revolving door with high turnover. They have no problems laying off massive amounts of skilled trained employees only to hire folks off the street with not experience. However, several employees come back anyway because of the benefits and possibility of success the second or third time around.

Advice to Management

Pour more resources into the employees you have instead of spending so much on training unexperienced new hires. Listen to the reps and make goals more realistic instead of basing them off of the stock market.

    Pros

good potential if executed properly, great acquisitions, decent vision, great work life balance

    Cons

very poor execution, extreme CYA attitude, too much fat for the results delivered, delivery driven culture which results in a lack of innovation, product managers not empowered enough to make product/design decisions, bureaucracy at every level, what should take 1 week to get done takes 2-3 months to get done, process overkill, several folks have made a career at Dell by not doing anything constructive. middle mgmt bloated, resulting in poor career growth opportunities

    Advice to Management

Innovate, innovate, innovate. put 3% of rev towards R&D, let product team make product decisions, focus on how to make great things and revenue will come
