I have been working at Dell full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

The health benefits are great. The vacation time is also very nice. The people in my office are also wonderful. Work from home a few days a week is a great benefit too.

Cons

Morale is very low due to a general feeling of being unimportant or disposable. Many times promises are and then nothing happens. Pay has been frozen for many years for most.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you tell your people something is going to happen, follow through with it.

    Pros

    Good benefits, although the perks get reduced each year and the cost of healthcare rises each year.

    Cons

    The atmosphere drives most people to work very long hours although the company claims to encourage work-life balance. Lower management has their hands tied for the most part and often can't hire, back-fill positions or reward good performers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Find areas to budget cut that don't directly impact employee morale. Listening to the other employees complain is probably the worst aspect of being there.

    Pros

    Large multi-national company
    Opportunities to try out new ideas if you are in the right place at the right time
    Pay was decent, lower market range for base salary, but highly dependent on bonus delivery which varies on level, and individual and company performance

    Cons

    Culture is overly individually oriented, lacks collaboration, and super competitive beyond any value to drive innovation or best work; in short a destructive and unhealthy environment
    Inauthentic about values and vision; management lacks transparency, very top down closed communication style
    Not a smart company, seriously behind the technology curve, disorganized, and lots of changes in direction at the last minute, when management finally engages. People working long hours and going in circles
    Many of the people at Dell are callous, jaded and outright rude

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get an attitude of harmony instead of discord, cooperation instead of competition, sharing instead of hoarding, and reverence for individuals instead of exploitation
