    Former Employee - Accounting Intern
    Former Employee - Accounting Intern

I worked at Dell as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Development Opportunities: The Accounting Development Program (ADP), the full-time development program that accounting internships feed into is a great opportunity to gain a breadth of accounting experience without having to go work for a public accounting firm first.

Networking: Networking is highly encouraged, even as an intern. Full-time employees in a variety of roles and positions were willing to give of their time to give context to the different areas of finance, accounting, and the company in general.

    Cons

Systems: The systems in use at Dell are very complex, and many of them are either home-grown or were brought in as stop-gap solutions (they haven't been improved as the company has expanded). As a result, there is sometimes a lot of manual work that must be performed only because the systems have interfacing issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in front-end solutions that will make the work performed more efficient rather than relying on back-room work addressing issues that could have been prevented with less cost and time.
