I have been working at Dell full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Direct, open culture. Great & talented people. Good compensation for strong performers. The company reinvention can be very exciting. Tremendous employee morale and good will for the company to succeed.

    Cons

The company is in transition. Insufficient investment to improve internal systems and processes.
Tendency for "group think" amongst middle management supporting exec management - Dell has lost the value of "managerial courage".
    Great work-from-home flexibility.
Work/Life balance under serious threat, especially for people in global roles. Lot's of work to do, and not enough people.
Limited budget for internal travel to interact with your team and colleagues.
During reinvention, over-emphasis on self-promoting political behavior.
Perpetual restructuring has been wasteful and lost so many opportunities to Dell's external competitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the underlying infrastructure so that employees can be more effective in their daily work. Guard against rewarding self-promoting political behavior.
Make crisp decisions about where you will invest or divest the business.
Direct HR to retain the strongest employees during restructuring efforts, even if there is no immediate bench.
