I have been working at Dell

Pros

You can definitely do whatever you want at Dell! They are extremely supportive of any initiatives you come up with. The benefits are great. There is no micromanagement. You can even work from home often if there's no need to be in the office. I greatly appreciate the flexibility in my job!

Cons

Things are always changing. Because of this, there is no easy way to learn how to get things done. Also, most projects are managed laterally, which leads to a lack of accountability without escalating issues.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a process and let it stay a while after implementation to see if it really works. Change is good, but only if it;s given time to make its intended progress.

    I worked at Dell

    Pros

They have a pretty lax dress code.

    Cons

They believe they are a meritocracy. I worked in half a dozen groups over 10 years. That may have been true early on. Its simply not anymore.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dell used to believe in high quality products, fantastic customer service, and they used to place a high value on their employees. Somewhere along the line they lost sight of those three basics and decided that customers will buy a Dell no matter what and that employees were interchangeable head counts. Now they continually lose both and that won't change until they change their culture to make those three basics important again.
