Pros

Decent pay but not excellent. They do have the best 401(k). Employees are fine, just managers that are horrible.

Cons

Incompetent managers, unrealistic expectations from managers, favoritism of certain employees, punished for expressing your opinions, no mentorship, managers keep control with fear tactics

I worked at Dell full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally have great teams surrounding you; most direct managers are very supportive & do not micro-manage; strong work-from-home program.

    Cons

Project move at glacial speed; vision of senior management does not trickle down to true action; empire-building prevents work from getting done; neraly impossible to move within company without knowing the hiring manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's time to remove the middle-tier managers that are incapable of moving at start-up speed to transform the company into what it needs to become. Stop hiring old friends/cronies to fill your org. Instead, find the best candidate for the position. Simply put, you need more "doers" rather than "yes men".

I worked at Dell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Business unit owners are allowed to run it like it was their own business; empowered staff; allows staff to work from home if required; fast paced

    Cons

Immoral methods employed by management to have employees move to other locations or have them leave in order to reduce cost; too many restructures; hesitant to commit fully to change i.e. if it doesn't work quickly, back out

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Use the opportunity, now that Dell is private, to assess the right areas to invest and invest !
    - Treat employees well, they are your biggest asset
    - It is not just the price point that is important to a customer, service goes a long way too .. look at Richard Branson and the success he has had with Virgin
    - Think bigger, not quicker

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
