    Pros

Very talented and high caliber employees that you interact with, although good people seem to be leaving every day.

    Cons

Dell failed to invest in infrastructure as the company grew. There are no processes or tools which makes each and every job very difficult, very manual, and inefficient. You spend most of your time focusing on the trivial many instead of the important few.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on profitability.

    Pros

Talented personnel are Dell's primary asset. If you want to challenge yourself, the level of talent will make you improve yourself. Very competitive environment. If you have the right skill set, there are plenty of career options at Dell. Dell welcomes breadth in jobs and you own your career. Now being on the outside and a student at a top 10 MBA program, I appreciate even more the experience and knowledge Dell gave me.

    Cons

Long hours and work life balance are a challenge. Even though Michael has said the business is turning around, how is Dell innovating and will the innovation continue if they become a leader again? After years of defending manufacturing in the U.S. and being close to the customer, manufacturing is disappearing and moving to Asia and other WW locations. If you are an operations person, forget working at Dell. Your network is extremely important at Dell and if you want to move up in roles, you must develop a strong network.

    Advice to Management

Continue to innovate into new markets. Dell needs to continue to expand its product portfolio. Don't be afraid of risk. The company has been too conservative in the past. Don't punish personnel for taking risk.
