I worked at Dell

Pros

You will have a job and a paycheck, benefits are good. immediate managers are concerned about their subordinates, but senior management is questionable at best. Physical working conditions are very good as a result of being in a neww facility.

Cons

Expect to be treated as a number rather than a person. The moral is extremely low after many rounds of layoffs.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what you say you will. Nothing erodes moral faster than management that is perceived as not caring.

    I worked at Dell

    Pros

It was a great job, had fun working in the mall, and was able to learn alot of customer service skills, and learn to sell computers.

    Cons

while it was a fun job, it was hard to sell computers in a mall, especially when we did not have the items there. people had to order them then they had to be delivered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

why did they close down all the stores in the mall, i know we provided great customer service, also we provided the face of dell.. big mistake closing them down.

Utilize the training, work hard, stay out of the politics

    I worked at Dell

    Pros

There is a good opportunity for one to seek individual training within Dell. You may have to proactively seek out this training, but the better managers/executives will help point you in the right direction. There are many good managers/executives that strive to see you succeed, but not all fall in this category. Find an executive mentor that holds similar values to your own and work with that person closely.

    Cons

There are some very clear politics within Dell. If you work hard and don't rock the boat, you are likely to be at least partially successful. Perception is reality, and the better you are perceived, often the better the opportunities presented to you. Do not draw the ire of any high level executive, or your career will be drastically hampered. In short, like many large corporations, keep your nose to the grind stone, produce, and you can be successful. Management does not care for complaints.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the honest feedback from those in the field and front line managers. Where there is not opportunity in a particular vertical or segment, don't continue to raise the attainment bar. You can't get blood out of stone. Try to make sure that account sets are fair for all too equally attain, and keep an eye out for favoritism.
