I have been working at Dell

Pros

Great flexibility, good pay and benefits. Company is in transition and that creates opportunities for those who are willing to deal with some ambiguity.

Cons

Management doesn't comprehend the notion of being visionary. Too much emphasis on doing as you are told. Fearful of novel approaches to solving problems. Tendency to rinse and repeat failed policies at the management level.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Refuse to do anything 1/2 baked. It costs too much money and energy to do something with limited commitment.

    I worked at Dell

    Pros

Perot systems was a good place to work. The history of the company and the rate at which Ross Perot grew the company was impressive. I was outsourced to Perot and the experience working for Perot was not bad at all.

    Cons

There was no room for growth in the technical line. After being in perot for 5.5 years, did not get an opportunity to grow at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

create enough heirarchy in the technical groups so that people can aspire for growth.

Lots of opportunities if you are part of the old boys network, the culture does not care much about the employees

I have been working at Dell

    Pros

Large Company, lots of different divisions
If you are in Round Rock, one of the only main employers
    Stock options

    Cons

Although a large company, this does not mean job security. Dell has layoffs on a regular basis, every quarter.
Still a male dominated company, very limited opportunities in leadership for women even though they speak of diversity. Some of it is just to check a box.
Very business oriented but not very good about allowing employees to have a work/life balance or recognizing for the sacrifices made by the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your management team better. There is training there, make sure they leaders are taking the training and get real measurements on how they are doing. A greater focus on the employees will yield better working results and happier employees will drive for better overall experience for the clients.
