Pros

The best parts about Deloitte are the smart, motivated, intelligent people, the great paid vacation time (we get 23 days plus lots of holidays), good pay (and great raises compared to industry), and the fact that it is an overal great company! Everyone here takes pride in where they work and knows that they were one of the FEW selected in a HUGE pool of candidates for these jobs.

Cons

The downsides of working at Deloitte are the long hours that must be put in at times, the everyday stress of balancing multiple clients and engagements, and the travel required at times.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your people, listen to your people, be flexible with your people.

    Pros

    Flexibility, significant advancement opportunities, and the people. In a service-oriented business, it's the people that make the difference. You have to find the right fit for yourself, and the people of Deloitte are what makes it the right fit. It can be a challenge to recognize and make use of the flexibility that this job offers, and it does increase significantly over time (just as your responsibilities also increase), but in my opinion, it can't be beat in private industry.

    Cons

    Long hours and difficult to manage ever-changing client expectations. Our clients are some of the biggest in the world, and they sometimes make challenging demands on our people. Sometimes those demands are not as inflexible as they might seem, but concern over perception often trumps reality and causes unnecessary stress in the work environment. Also, some local leadership do not necessarily support national and global initiatives to the degree that they should due to local pressures in addressing local client needs. This causes a significant disconnect between messages delivered nationally and globally and the local reality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue the fantastic national and global initiatives, but find a way to monitor and correct problems in local leadership support for those initiatives.

    Pros

    - Variety: opportunity to work across any industry if you don't yet know exactly what you're interested in
    - Opportunity to work in 1 or 2 industries if you're passionate about any
    - Flexibility - busy time on projects, but usually some down-time ("beach time") between projects which can be like a mini-vacation
    - Variety of work if you're interested in many areas of business
    - GREAT people
    - Collaborative, friendly, embracing culture
    - Continuous performance review, and opportunity for self-improvement and development
    - Travel opportunities
    - Hotel points and airline miles (i.e. free international vacations)
    - Learning from your peers and senior managers about what to do and what not to do
    - Opportunity to do a wide variety of activities outside client-work
    - Endless learning possibilities
    - Leadership positions in a variety of work- and non-work related areas
    - Lots of vacation time
    - Ability to take on more and more responsibility
    - Closely work with very senior people who are experts in their areas, but give you opportunity to shine and contribute
    - International opportunities
    - Internal mobility across the hundreds of offices around the globe

    Cons

    - It's a big company with a lot of systems and processes, sometimes can feel bureaucratic
    - Can't get promoted much out of cycle
    - Below-average pay
    - Time-consuming and annoying weekly expense-reporting system
    - Hard to balance work and private life due to 100% travel with projects
    - Lots of long ERP systems implementation projects

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Continue what you're doing, and learn from each other across regions and offices - some offices have definitely a better, more well-defined and appreciated culture in the office, than other
    - Continue to seek feedback and listen to the employees. Always afraid that the culture will change if one partner/office MD/regional MD/service area lead/service line lead will leave, or rotate out of their position;
