Pros

Great emphasis on networking.
Great Prestige.
Huge alumni group who are willing to help out.

Cons

Firm initiatives (extracurriculars) are a MUST.
Big firm= little organization and standardization.
High employee turnover, but no one talks about it.
Compensation in base and bonus pay is not competitive as compared with market.
Commercial junior staff are significantly better paid then Federal junior staff.

Advice to Management

Give bonus to all federal junior staff just like you give bonuses to commercial junior staff. Also give equal pay to all junior staff for commercial and federal.

    Pros

    Generally work with very smart and self director people
    Very good place to work if you are a woman or in a minority

    Cons

    Partners are not very partner like
    Extremely long hours and little care toward personal life
    Very little leverage in the marketplace; not developing market channels

    Advice to Management

    Obtain and verify facts before making bad decisions
    Promote based on ability versus longevity or ability to work internal channel
    Develop program to identify and nuture people that actually deliver client results/references

    Good salary
    Good bonus
    23 days PTO to start
    Some interesting projects
    Some very talented people

    Cons

    80-100% travel
    Poor work-life balance
    Heavy off-shore model
    Lots of staff-aug type engagements
    Low caliber talent hired whenever there is an open role

    Advice to Management

    Deloitte has a lot of great ideas, methods, morals, etc., however many of these things are not followed on the projects. Often the focus is purely on what is contractually required in the SOW, as opposed to what is best for the client. Unrealistic project timelines are consistently adopted and always end in horrible resources crunches, long weekends and late nights. Upper level management and partners need to start learning from their mistakes and manage projects more realistically, even if it means not winning the work. Don't underbid every project, and then kill your people to get it done.
