Former Employee - ERS Senior Consultant in Hyderābād (India)

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

This is for Deloitte AERS USI
- Amazing learning and development opportunities. The firm really invests in your development from a learning perspective.

Cons

- It is basically a back office so there is death of quality work. You need to butter your manager to get proper work.
- Non transparent performance review process
- You growth etc depends more on whom in the senior leadership you know rather than your abilities. Not a Con actually. More like a cultural thing that you should be aware of.
- The number of resources being hired appears to be way too high compared to the work available. This will have an adverse impact on your performance review as billability is adversely impacted.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring the best resources when you do not have commensurate work to offer them. It would be more cost effective and would lead to better employee satisfaction if optimal resources are hired.
Need to have a more hands on approach and be more aware of what is happening on the ground.

Don't expect to have a personal life

    I worked at Deloitte

    Pros

Expect high compensation and an excellent benefits package
Opportunity for travel to great places (some of mine included Hawaii, NY, So Cal), but also included awful, depressing places in the middle of nowhere (Kansas, the Dakotas)

    Cons

See above in terms of travel: you have very little say in where you end up, and sometimes you're there for 12+ months at a time
EXTREMEMLY political, and difficult to get highly rated or a promotion unless you're chummy with sr. management and partners
Do not expect to have a social life if you're single, unless you're interested in hooking up with colleagues on the road (which I was NOT)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote on merit, not on personal relationships

Current Employee - Manager in Perth, Western Australia (Australia)

I have been working at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

Consulting in Australia: Dynamic work with sophisticated colleagues. Great respect for work-life balance and diversity. Mature workplace culture with excellent articulation and reinforcement of cultural expectations through the performance management process (see Seven Signals). Partnership group spends significant time understanding what drives staff and responding to attract and retain the best talent. Increasing trend of staff moving from boutique houses (ie McKinsey) to Deloitte. High performance culture and expectations.

    Cons

Like all big 4 firms in Australia, REM includes superannuation (9%). This % must be removed from any salary figure to calculate true salary. Bonuses are discretionary depending on market conditions under the Director band. When paid to junior staff, size of bonus depends on performance rating. Directors and above have formalised bonus structure, dependent again on performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Investigate ways to further incentivise excellent performance with bonuses.
