Pros

Vast opportunities to interact with senior management of the client very early in your career. You learn very early how to handle yourself professionally and learn the business vernacular.

Cons

Demands are often unrealistic and frustrating. Not everyone loves to audit all day long (and into the evenings), but oftentimes seniors and/or managers expect it from you, as they impose their feelings onto you.
Promotions and raises are very political, and it seems there is a lot of time given up by employees to receive minimal compensation from the partners (although there is generally high praise, which dissipates quickly)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make your employees feel appreciated. This can come in the form of a 'thank you' or a 'good job'. If you don't feel this is necessary (because it is a job after all), then don't expect the employees to buy in to the company further than their paycheck carries them. Employees in these situations are likely to treat their jobs as 9-5 and that's all.

    Pros

-Decent compensation for First Year Analysts
    -Hours are decent
-Good brand name- extremely well respected in the marketplace
    -Culture isn't stressful

    Cons

-Highly uneven work experience- very engaging and intellectually stimulating projects can be followed by a month of 'bench time' or garbage work.
    -Highly political work environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership structure is not well aligned with the needs of our clients and the capabilities of our staff level resources.

Current Employee - BTA in Washington, DC

    Pros

Well known, looks good on resume, not extraordinarily eager to cut people if they can't find a project for a few months. Some projects are interesting. Standard advancement through first 3 positions of 2 years each

    Cons

Completely network driven so if you don't like networking do not work here. Federal practice is not innovative and it is hard to switch projects if you do not like one and they tend to be long. Basically learn how to connect other people's programs (SAP, Business Objects, etc) for clients though do do some custom development work. Performance reviews are network driven. Doing good work on projects not enough; have to do firm activities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let people move around. Give more feedback and establish more mentoring programs. Do more innovative work and let people pitch ideas from the lower levels.
