Former Employee - Executive Assistant in San Jose, CA
Former Employee - Executive Assistant in San Jose, CA

I worked at Deloitte as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

Professional environment. The systems in place and resources are extensive. There was a great sense of coordination and communication and sharing of best practices at least among the department.

Cons

Scope of position is limited in nature. If you are an Exec Assistant looking for a challenge do not apply. If you are an inexperienced assistant looking to gain skills in a large corporate environment, this is a great place to work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There seems to be a disconnect between the operations group who hires support for the Partners. Hence the Partners are not invested in the people supporting them. From my experience this resulted in the Partners not relying on their assistants for a higher level of support, since they really didn't have much say in the continuity or duration of their support staff.

    Great Benefits but Bad Leadership

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits. Probably a good place to start your career... then its easier to navigate through the company.

    Cons

Very cut-throat leadership. People are used and tossed very easily. Not a good work/life balance. Emphasis is on getting billable hours in as opposed to gaining valuable skills and focus on customer quality. Technical skills are not valued. So perhaps a great company for people who are interested in business development and marketing. Stay clear if you have technical skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to figure out whether they want consultants focused on selling or technical people who actually have skills.

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The fringe benefits are very good.

    Cons

Utilization is your worst enemy. I don't know why it is said that this is a great place to work. The layers of red tape between never ending progress reports and trying to keep your job is just too much. Also, it is not easy to switch counselors, when you get a bad one it is really bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talent (HR) is not helpful. The entire system should be replaced. Once on the bench, it is really your job to network and find yourself another job. Talent will give you anything anywhere, if it does not work for you too bad.
