Pros

This is a giant organization that has many resources, if you can find and use them towards your favor. Client work quality is supreme. You become very client-oriented and time-sensitive.

Cons

Overall disappointing experience - work isn't challenging, pay isn't commensurate with how much you work, too much politics and no good leaders.

Advice to Management

Treat your staff better, instead having this expectation that they will leave after 2 years before you even hire them. Only investing in your people after 5 - 6 years services isn't a test of loyalty; it's the opposite and accelerate the pace for top performers to leave.

Besides the banking team, it's not a good idea to force staff cancel plans and stay late all week.

Reward hard work.

    Pros

Deloitte has an excellent training center in Dallas. Deloitte takes employee training very serious.

    Cons

Deloitte remains a company to specialize on audit and tax. The Energy and Resource team is forced to work on Audit projects due to lack of projects in other industries. Partners are interested in sales and not interested to complete projects successfully. If you are on the bench due to lack of projects, you get pushed to work on projects that have nothing to do with your background or face getting pushed out. Some partners have not the right industry background and it seems very obvious during sales demo.

    Advice to Management

Connect with your employees. Don't treat them as resources on a spreadsheet so you can toss and move them around as you wish. Don't throw buddies onto a project. Assign the appropriate employees/experts to a projects to be more successful.

    Pros

Great place to start a career as there are many training and development opportunities available to employees. Finding an effective mentor and/or champion can make or break your career here. Generally speaking, your colleagues will be smart and hard working.

Fairly decent compensation and bonus structure if you don't actually look at it on an hourly basis. :-)

    Cons

Despite all of the lip service paid to "career-life fit" this seems more aimed at external organizations for the purposes of PR and recruiting. Note that it is not referred to as "work-life balance" because given the expected hours and contributions it is hard to demonstrate any balance.

Performance reviews and promotions despite good intentions are still too dependent on who you know and how effective your career counselor is in their due diligence and presentation. Unfortunately this is not usually someone you work with on a day-to-day basis. Feedback providers can take advantage of this to prop up less worthy individuals as well as sand bag others without addressing concerns directly with individuals as it ideally should be. None of the current checks or balances of the performance review process adequately addresses this.

There is also a stunning lack of diversity at the senior levels of the organization. I worked in an account space where all of the PPDs (~10 of them) were white males. It was noted and commented on frequently at the staff level.

    Advice to Management

Overhaul your performance review process. The cycle is excessively long and burdensome and lacks transparency as well as real checks and balances to ensure fairness.
