Delta Air Lines – “North vs. South Salary Disparity”
Pros
Lots of opportunity to do good work and be recognized. Exciting business - crazy and unstable at times. Great people, great culture - crappy financials for the past decade and a half.
Cons
With the merger with NWA there exists glaring disparities between salaries of pre-merger NWA people and pre-merger Delta people in the salaried ranks. Published pay scale/hourly wages have been reconciled. Salaries for leaders and amanagers must be reconciled. Delta's salary model has been very "gray", not at all transparent and very frustrating for many years. Now is the time for corrections and clarity.
Advice to Senior Management
Please do not let let large pay disparities fester - it is cancerous. Add transparency to the process. Allow for larger and/or more frequent than merit pool size raises to close gaps. Regrade jobs that are graded to high or too low. Correct peoples' salaries in BOTH directions (add or reduce) if that's what it takes to attain some level of fairness.
