Delta is an alright company to work for, but needs some basic improvements

I have been working at Delta Air Lines full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are clear opportunities for advancement from within Delta, the company is making many smart changes that are benefiting Pax and employees, and they will occasionally listen to advice from employees.

    Cons

Far too much favoritism and "boy's club" mentality. Promotions come from friendships and "back scratch" deals more than from actual work ethic and competence. Payscale should reflect living costs around the station you're based at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch local operations closer, get your hands dirty. Many work environments are very negative and favoritism is rampant. Observe how supervisors interact with their employees when they don't know their being watched by corporate.

Former Employee - Software Developer in Atlanta, GA

I worked at Delta Air Lines as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

    - The flight benefits, which I'm sure everyone mentions.
    - Relaxed work environment.
    - You can really add to your resume if you have the drive to do your own project.

    Cons

    - Flying on benefits is the most stressful thing you'll ever do.
    - Pay is not competitive for a software development position.
    - They use outdated software, so you get little to no relevant experience.
    - It seemed to be very bureaucratic. I don't know that good work will necessarily land you a better position and salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - If you are going to pay so low compared to other companies, make sure that the flight benefits are usable. Similarly, focus more on fixing the back end of the operation. It seems as if most of the money is spent on the customer side, when a strong software suit to manage parts and other work would cut back on a lot of useless spending.
