Delta Air Lines – “If you get a chance to work for Delta Air Lines, DO IT”
Pros
I really appreciate how I am treated. Delta also has high regard for helping others in the communities it serves. Delta encourages employee participation in a lot of good causes.
The benefits are great, the leadership smart and open. This is not an easy industry to be in and I think the management at Delta does a great job of overcoming the challenges inherent in this industry. I am treated well and given the flexibility I sometimes need. The travel is a super perk and the people in my group are intelligent and driven.
Cons
There is very little diversity at the VP- level and very few opportunities for advancement anywhere except at very low levels. The only place I've seen promotions is in the HR department - they seem to have limitless funding for high-priced contractors and projects. There is also a lot of room for improvement and consolidation as far as work distribution.
Some policies are not applied fairly across the board, like work from home within the same department varies from manager to manager. It is as though a manager's personal preference can trump a company policy for similar jobs that could be done from home.
Advice to Senior Management
My only advice is to keep doing what you're doing to keep us going, but don't sacrifice employees positions for contractors unless the job requires little formal skills or training. Outsourcing often turns into being as expensive as an employee would have been and does not serve our customers as well. Thanks for helping us compete in this tough economy
