Pros

People, people and people - many employees in the 25 year range - wealth of knowledge

Cons

Very slow to make changes - layoffs every year included 2012 (huge cut) when the company had it's best year in the last 7 years - haven't been able to find the next big product

Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO Stock Options should be held for 5 years before he can exercise - he's proven he can cut but not able to provide a future/vision/direction for the company

    Pros

    Good people, benefits are good, ethical

    Cons

    Very process oriented, decisions cannot be made without a committee. Moves like the Titanic. Wants to be a financial technology company but cannot get past being a check printer. Every year I have been with them they cut more and more people. Does not want to be a Kodak but could be on the way.

    Pros

    Okay work-life balance
    Good benefit package
    Friendly co-workers (most of the time)
    Recognized the need to diversify through acquisition.

    Cons

    Senior leadership is one-dimensional. Only care about metrics and money. There is no human factor even with the VP of HR and her directors.Leadership needs to do more research when acquiring other companies and have a plan to avoid the continuous lay-offs. Also, think more about quality than quantity. If your sales team and support systems cannot handle all the acquisitions and new products, then you will lose customers and employees due to the inefficiencies and confusion it causes. Growth and diversification are good, but do it with wisdom and forethought... The Deluxe Brand is taking a bad rap because of senior leadership decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Slow down and think things through before disrupting the entire organization with your acquisition race to diversity. The CEO has very few followers due to his dictator style; perhaps it's time for him to go. Great companies respect employees, their ideas, and work hard to empower each to bring value to their job and the organization. The top down leadership does not provide this and most employees are fearful, just as a dictatorship suggests. Leadership asks for ideas, but doesn't listen. Leadership talks the talk but forgets to walk the walk.
