Pretty standard cooking experience.

I worked at Denny's part-time (More than a year)

Pros

If you can handle the pressures of a high-volume kitchen, the work is great. Nothing on the menu is particularly complicated and Denny's kitchens are often designed for high speed.

Cons

If you love cooking and want to learn more about food, this place isn't for you. I had the experience of working at a Denny's that was mostly staffed by college kids. This meant great energy, but also a certain level of apathy on the part of some employees. I found myself working alone a handful of times. Not easy.

    Pros

Good processes in place (test the heck out of everything), decent number of talented employees, solid leadership, great work/life balance, marketing has turned things around in past 2-3 years

    Cons

Pay is pretty bad, good amount of silos, no diversity, little training

    Advice to Management

You will never attract and retain top-level talent unless you pay more

    Pros

If you are an employee (hourly) it is a great place to be. The employees have the ability to contact corporate if they have any problems with management.

    Cons

If you are management then you are constantly having to defend your actions such as terminating an employee caught three times giving away food. The company has no backbone.

    Advice to Management

Just because the company lost a very public and embarrassing lawsuit many years ago does not mean you have to let everyone run all over you.
