Good for a temporary retail position, but no place to have a career or build your resume.

    I worked at Destination Maternity

    Pros

Fair wages for retail sales, great clientele (you're helping women through the a very special time in their life), nice employee discount (even in their spa), quality fashions, occasional sales contests to earn some extras (like a mani/pedi, or a cash bonus), daily chance to check in with management.

    Cons

Aggressive competition between sales associates even though you're not on commission, sometimes even fighting over customers and stealing sales, which management encouraged and did nothing about. Misleading in terms of raises and promotions. Raises are only done once a year, and are literally change, like an additional $0.17 an hour. They say they promote from within the company, but I never once saw a promotion, only several demotions. It is really annoying to push magazine subscriptions at the cash register, daily quota for subscriptions. Don't get sick here, had a kidney infection and was taken off the schedule permanently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To store level management- be nicer to your staff, don't make people cry when giving feedback, and no yelling on the sales floor. To upper management- visit your stores more often, speak to your employees about the atmosphere in the store, try to develop some type of culture in the company, or some higher standards from management.
