Pros

None, unless you thrive in a cut-throat environment or you want to sleep your way to the top

Cons

True expertise, knowledge, and business acumen are not appreciated in an environment where everyone is sleeping with each other to get ahead. If that's not a game you want to play, don't bother to apply!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Attend the same "diversity" workshops non-managers are required to attend, and recognize your behavior is inappropriate!

Great place to start, depending on your managers.

I have been working at Deutsche Bank

    Pros

You can learn a lot of skills quickly if you put in your own effort.

Most coworkers are friendly and supportive.

They'll hire just about anybody to do basic analyst roles (including former kindergarten teachers).

Good managers will watch out for you and give you clear assessments of your success and failures.

Depending on your role, you may have great work/life balance (40-42 hr/week) or you might work much longer hours regularly (45-55 hr/week).

Pretty easy to take days off.

Even with cons, it is still a worthwhile company, and has the potential to improve tremendously.

Depending on your role, it can be pretty relaxing.

    Cons

Depending on your role, it can be very stressful.

The company is not kind to whistleblowers or people who raise legitimate issues with business practices and ethics.

Unsurprisingly, management and advancement is seniority-based, despite assertions that to the contrary of the environment being a 'meritocracy'.

Horrific technology - they desperately need to update their technology. The current cost-cutting environment does not encourage investment in technology. It takes weeks to months to get access to systems. All employees have this problem, some worse than others. If you need new systems or applications, even critical ones, it still takes weeks or months.Tech support is labyrinthine. Submitting tickets to be updated is difficult, and most employees give up or put off fixes because of frustration with the system (most of the tech support is run out of Indian call centers, which is hit or miss - use local IT whenever possible).

The turnover here is high. Leaving the bank is on most people's minds, even if not said aloud. "Sinking ship" is a phrase used frequently used. The people who enjoy working here tend to feel that way because it is not as bad or stressful as other jobs in the banking industry (ex. Bank of America, Merrill-Lynch) or other industries (ex-military).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in better technology. Improve tech support ticket system for ease of use. Ethics should be a higher consideration. There is great potential for improvement.
