A decent starting company, always prepared to exit

Overland Park, KS

Current Employee – been working at Dex One full-time for more than a year

ProsFor being younger and somewhat fresh out of school, the money was there to help out. My 401K was matched after a year, and you are paid on existing accounts that are assigned to you. The fact that this job doesn't have you thinking about it at 5:01PM is also a nice addition, as well as my co-workers.

ConsFrom our initial training, we were being trained to think that this job was something entirely different than what it is. We didn't act as "Marketing Consultants" but more as nagging sales people. We were told there was no cold-calling, yet it became one of the most highly emphasized duties of the job. They constantly pitched (brainwashed?) about how useful the Yellow Pages are, yet our clients were shutting their doors after investing in them. We took loss after loss, yet the management thought it was our "selling skills" and not the product, nor the poorly positioned company. There is no brand attached to Dex, nobody who is advertising even knows what they're paying for or running. They are so far behind in the digital arena that it's scary. The expectations are ridiculous and unrealistic, and even if you have success and are a top-performer, you're treated like your 10 and micromanaged into despair.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop rolling out initiatives and programs before you're ready for them, and brand, brand brand!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
