A brilliant place to work - but not as good as it was

Senior Marketing (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsVery bright people. Friendly informal culture. Top quality brands you can really identify with. Good salaries. International reach and scope. Serious company but still in the leisure and entertainment business - and that permeates down through the company, especially for celebrations. Great brand heritage. Excellent marketing organisation with very good continuous training. Basically fun, challenging and stimulating.

ConsIt's still a big corporation with all that that implies: complicated processes, constant stakeholder alignment, plenty of jumping through hoops, new mantras from the top that are mysteriously and silently replaced a couple of years later. Doesn't always live up to its purported values. At the end of the day, driven by the need to keep the City constantly happy, rather than doing what may be best for the company long term.

There is little pro-active career management. Staff have to do all the running, get mentorship and proactively manage their careers, engineer change. No one will do it for you.

Company is increasingly risk-adverse which stultifies creativity.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake more risks. Act like a major heavyweight company in terms of sponsorships and marketing initiatives.

Having said that - look at the share price increase in last 5 years then tell the management they have got it wrong.
