Not a bad company to work for if you're flexible.

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Fair pay for retail. Good discount through vendors. All associates treated pretty equally. Nice benefits if you qualified for them.

Cons

The schedule was constantly changing at the last minute. Communication from management down was completely lacking and often times people got written up for things they had never been trained on. Most often things didn't get done on time or incorrectly because payroll had to be cut and there simply wasn't enough time to both satisfy customers and work on tasks. Just like most retail- it was a gossip mill.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make more time for training and making sure things get communicated properly. If you want a satisfied customer base it's probably not a bad idea to have a staff dedicated to just tasking and a staff dedicated to just selling.

I have been working at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

interviewers TRIED to ACT polite with an emphasis on TRIED

    Cons

This company definitely discriminates against people over 40. And if the interview dosent show you that then go in this new store and ask one of the ignorant sales people to help you with anything. They couldn't help themselves out of a rainstorm . And they couldn't sell a heater to an eskimo in the winter time. What idiots

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enlighten yourselves. Stop breaking the labor law about hiring older workers and improve your sales staff. Young is NOT necessarily the best way to go. When the people don't know anything. Customers can spot that a mile away

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You get to wear gym shoes, that's about it.

    Cons

Horrible management - they are only there to work you so they can make a bonus and move up in the company. They do not care if you have prior experience or a college degree, all they want is someone that can help make sales goals and work horrible hours. Hourly rate is poor, turnover rate is high, and hours are cut constantly, not guaranteeing the hours you were told at your interview.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating the associates like drones, and more like people. And don't lie about hours when you interview people - Dick's will cut hours before they cut prices, leaving customers frustrated because there is no help on the floor and associates working multiple departments since there isn't enough coverage.
