I have been working at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time (more than an year)

Pros

This job is good for people who really enjoy sports, or exercising, or hunting. But if you do not like those things this place will not suit you at all.

Cons

Management can be good, but it does depend on what store you work at. The store I work at the store manager can be okay, but is very moody; the department managers are great. They get overworked a lot though.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees who can be experts on the stuff they sell. Give the department managers some breaks from time to time, and be sure whoever you put in charge of the whole store knows how to communicate.

I have been working at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Team atmosphere, lots of customer interaction(never the same ? twice), customer-focused.

    Cons

Never sure how many hours you'll get as PT, sometimes 32+ one wk, 18 the next wk.
Does not pay for experience and education!!!!
Too many tasks, too few hours and associates to complete in time frame.
You will get paid the same working your tail off as your fellow associate who does just enough not to get fired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

to keep your bright stars, PAY THEM what they are worth! I've had 3 job offers with better pay I turned down b/c, for some strange reason, I have a loyalty to DSG. I am not sure if advancement positions actually exist except when someone leaves and you were the 2nd choice when the job came open the first time(doesn't make you feel real valuable).
