I have been working at Dick's Sporting Goods full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Always something new, and love being round sports atmosphere. Enjoy helping customers and it can
drive a competitive edge in you. Descent atmosphere. Competitive driven workforce, plenty of chances for advancement.....

    Cons

How employees are treated by some staff. They company does not care who make more and in what position. If you have been in the company for a good amount of time, good luck getting promotions, you have a better chance moving up faster if you come in from another store. Some positions are paid more than others, even though the person with higher pay may not actually have a higher title in the store......some places a lodge lead make more than a key & coded Freight Flow Lead(basically a manager) and does all the work of 4-5 associates in the store and makes less(lol) and this is supposed to be the next position b4 management. They corp or districts very rarely ask employees whats going on in their very own company...it would be interesting if they did an Undercover Boss lol, to see what some employees are like as well as some managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to really know your stores inside & out.....even from the regular associates. Take care of the people that actually do a good job in your stores. Sometimes managers arent able to do their own job and certain associates get it done and the manager takes all the credit.

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The new building and it's amenities are fantasic. The company has a great thing going with it's over all management and and direction. The benefits are fantastic. Health insurance is cheap, but great coverage, the bonuses are fantastic and average 15-20% (for all levels of employment and is based on company performance).

    Cons

Software development is lacking and has only one director that has ever worked with Software before. The software development department refuses to follow any industry best practices because their mantra is "We are not IT, we sell gym shorts."

Minor gripe - Business casual dress code (IE No Jeans).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some management and staff that have developed or worked with software prior to coming to the company. Quit moving folks from the business (IE Sales and Marketing) into software development, especially the management staff.
