ProsAbility to work with Sporting Goods. Ability to meet vendors directly. You might actually meet a celebrity or two while working.

Cons-Lack of upward Mobility (i .e Glass Ceiling)
-Lack of true training program, you have to learn by making mistakes as most Store Managers are not sure or capable of doing most tasks thus they aren't able to teach.
-Lack of guidance. Store Managers sit in the office most of the day "Running Reports".
-Lack of payroll. Sales/Department Managers are nothing more than "Sales Associates with keys to the building" and have to serve the role of Sales Associate/Manager/Cashier.
- "Good Ol Boy System". Those who are lucky enough to be viewed as a candidate for promotion usually are those who are "friends" with the manager. Hard work and dedication mean nothing.
-Low store Morale. Those who work hard are never rewarded, and are usually run into the ground. In addition labor cuts constantly keep associate availability on the sales floor to a minimum, resulting in irate customers.
-"You get what you pay for". At $8.00 an hour employees are expected to work themselves to death.
-"Its better to come from the outside". Outside management hires are offered more than ANY member of management that might be offered the opportunity to move up.
-Dick's whole Customer service or "Wow factor" is not supported by their actions. As stated before payroll is usually cut to the minimum thus causing no floor coverage and hostile customers.

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time for less than a year

Pros: Discounts, nothing else to say here just meeting the minimum… Cons: Lack of consistent hours each week, short shifts, no room… Advice to Senior Management: Promote from within No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
