I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers were friendly, work hours were dependable, decent wages.

    Cons

I first applied to Dick's as a Sales Associate. Even though I have over 18 years of soccer experience, 14 years of camping and kayaking experience, and 11 years of water sports experience, the Manager Assistant stated that I did not have enough hunting experience, and therefore wouldn't be a great fit with a sales position. Instead, they pushed an overnight position working with storage, which I didn't mind since I had previous experience with storage. However, they did not mention that overnight was a shift that they were experimenting with. Within 3 weeks I was notified that my position would be eliminated since sales were not improved by this shift, and would have to reapply for another position with the company, which could not be guaranteed. I decided not to reapply since the store manager and other higher level staff were misleading, disrespectful (I found out about my layoff only 3 days in advance), and did not communicate with other in-store managers.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat people with such a lack of respect and communicate more often with employees.
