I worked at DigiPen Institute of Technology

Pros

Flexible schedule.
Good opportunity to interact with the games industry professionals.
Discounts at Nintendo's company store.
Nice Christmas gifts.

Cons

1. No 401k matching.
2. The annual performance review is just a paper trail. Performance expectations are vague, subjective, and are left up to the administrations' preferences.
3. Not all the available job openings are announced and the interview process is not for everyone. Less qualified people can get hired just because of personal relations with the administration.
4. The chances of being promoted or of getting a raise are very slim.
5. The turnover rate of employees was high in the past few years. Many highly qualified employees left within a period of 1-2 years of employment.
6. The academic titles are meaningless and a total mess.

I have been working at DigiPen Institute of Technology full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Digipen has been very rewarding. I love giving back to the students! As well, I have an opportunity to stay sharp and experiment with different programs and techniques.

    Cons

You have to sacrifice your own needs with those of others. But, this is the nature of teaching and well worth it in the end!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice would be to push new technologies! We must embrace the future with leading state of the art computers, facilities, presentation devices, etc. Not only is this important for the students but- it is the way to step beyond what other schools ofter in terms of innovation, process, and quality.

I worked at DigiPen Institute of Technology full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Simple job that does not require state-of-the-art techniques and thinking. Just use the tools and techniques already tried and tested for 30+ years. Go along with what the management thinks and says and you will be fine.

    Cons

Micro-management. Do not question your superiors as they like to think "they know more than you". Whatever "Innovation'' is limited to just making the management "look good" and keeping ideas within a small limited context. Thus, the culture can work for those who wish to retire and are more willing to toe the management line.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The lack of truly innovative ideas, inventions and real contributions will keep you stagnant for many years to come.
