Once a great company to work for (IHOP), now just a shell of its former self.

Pros

They compensate fairly well, but that also depends on the position/department.

Cons

Many of the talented people have left the company. Morale at both "campuses" (Applebee's and IHOP) is extremely low as people are in constant fear for their jobs. Senior management has become increasingly more concerned with their bonuses than the welfare of the employees. Most are overworked, doing the job of 2-3 people because of continued downsizing. The vision and values sound great, but are not taken seriously. Management - from the CEO down - doesn't walk the talk. The turnover is insane - in the last 5 years at the parent company...3 IHOP presidents, 3 CFOs, 3 general counsels, 3 VPs of Development...the list goes on and that's just senior management.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk the talk and learn what true accountability is. Hold yourselves to the same standards to which you hold others.

I have been working at DineEquity

    Pros

DineEquity values competition, and works very hard at leading the family dining segment. There is a lot of research and marketing undertook to maintain and increase this lead.

    Cons

Executive management is adequate, at best. The CEO is invisible at most times, and the executives that are visible vary greatly in quality. While DineEquity is the umbrella company for both IHOP and Applebees, there is a very clean cut division between the two groups, even for the departments that function in the shared services segment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rash decisions undermine the work that has already been filtered down to the workers. There is still a lot to be done to improve morale at both campuses, and while we are all working towards the same goal there is a lot to be said about working together as a team.
