Current Employee - Advertising Sales in New York, NY
Current Employee - Advertising Sales in New York, NY

I have been working at Direct Agents full-time (more than an year)

Pros

As a sales person, I was looking for a company that would support me through the initial growing pains that come with starting a new position. I have been lucky to work with a manager that is willing to commit the time to help me build my book of business. I have already been promoted and will soon be building out my own sales team.

I am proud of the work I have done here, and am looking at a bright future

Cons

Like other sales positions, it is a work hard mentality. You have to be ready to hit the ground running.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to learn and grow as a group. Continued communication between departments

I worked at Direct Agents (less than an year)

    Pros

Fun outside-of-work activities, good office location at Astor Place.

    Cons

Often nasty to clients or provide them with misleading information, a lot of unhappy employees, poor treatment of employees and constant employee turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be respectful towards those under you, rather than treating everyone like they are replaceable. You'd be surprised at what people can do when they truly want to work for you rather than just being there to collect paychecks.

I have been working at Direct Agents full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Advertising clients and the fast pace of NYC is exciting
-The company has a vast potential to improve
    -Great location
    -Relaxed dress code

    Cons

    - Micro Managed to the point of having your e-mails read and being looked over your shoulder.
    - They spread their employees too thin. If you leave a minute before the official end of time day, or if you're the first person to leave your desk at the end of the day it is held against you.
    - Hours are not conducive for employees with families.
    - Impossible Deadlines - The employee is set up to fail. You work to meet a deadline, not to maximize the client's possibilities.
    - A high turnover rate which means that any employee is highly disposable.
-The office atmosphere is very tense and quiet
    - HR is ineffective in that it only protects management, not both them and the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust and protect your employees: Create a sense of camaraderie
Allow employees to manage their workload independently.
Allow employees to socialize with coworkers - some of the best ideas and partnerships can come from this.
Hire according to work load. If a department is consistently working 10-12 hrs a day perhaps consider growing the department.
Hire more account managers - this directly effects the productivity of other departments as well.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
