Direct Energy – “Going down the tubes at lightning speed”
3 of 3 people found this helpfulPros
The benefits package is very good, likely because it's a British-owned company.
Most employees are pretty smart and want to do well.
Friendly, if not overly distracting open working environment
Depending on who you work for, you could potentially have flexible work options.
Cons
Run like a colony by our British parent-company. They believe that doing exactly what was "done in the UK" will work in North America and have never tried to learn the culture in the States or Canada. Palpable tension between the American leaders and British leaders is the elephant in the room and is why employees are constantly running around with different directions.
On the rare occasion someone is actually promoted from within, it's often because they were good at their previous role and not because they are good people managers.
Employee morale is extremely low; employees are leaving in droves and nothing is being done to try to retain even the good ones.
Work is not at all challenging; much of the same things tried over and over again because of high employee churn.
Absolutely no career advancement opportunities
Management says they want to develop employees, but when you ask to participate in a training opportunity, it's frowned upon because of the insane amount of chicken chasing that goes on trying to implement projects.
Work life balance depends on who you report to. Office esthetics less than desireable. We are just not getting a lunch room after having to eat at our desks for 8+ years.
Advice to Senior Management
Wake up and look at what's happening in the organization. The extremely high employee churn is not something that "happens everywhere". Someone is going to have to step up and take a hard look at the terrible, terrible culture that's being created.
