Pros

There is a genuine concern about team and career development from most areas of the business. There is an opportunity for growth and development as the company changes and divests from RBS.

Cons

The strategy and strategic vision is not clear. The divestiture from RBS has caused confusion within the organisation, and they seem to be reactive as opposed to proactive overall. Growth and cost savings programmes are not aligned and tied to an overall vision.

Advice to Management

There is a difference between leadership and just management. If DLG wants to be a stable organisation, then having current exec in charge is fine, but stronger leadership is required to get the best for shareholders.

    Pros

This is a business in a great position to move away from the clutches of RBS and create its own identity again and lead the way in General Insurance. On paper, they have great brands and a huge opportunity to create their own way of doing things from scratch and because of this there are huge opportunities for career progresssion. Pay and benefits are very generous.

    Cons

There are too many layers of management and the ExCo seem to be incapapble of letting go - more decison making needs to be driven to the lowest possble point of the organisation so that the Exec can focus on a strategic direction for the business. I could discern no tangible strategy - if you asked each Exec what he/she thought it was you got a dozen different and confused answers. As a result, the business seemeed to be running around in all directions with noone making decsions and nothing ever getting done. The company like to think it's doing things differently, but in reality is way behind the curve. A lot of things look great beacause a lot of money is spent on razzle-dazzle, glossy pictures and consultants. Dig beneath the varnish and it's just more flaking paint. I had high-hopes when I joined, but quickly became disillusioned and became nauseated by the business-speak, despite their "say it like it is" value. Such a shame.

    Advice to Management

Flatten the structure and delegate decision making to the lowest possible point.
