I have been working at Discovery Communications full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great name recognition Amazing benefits (8 week fully paid STD, Phase back into work program for mothers coming off maternity leave) Great work/life balance The opportunity to telework

Cons

Compensation could be better There is a great childcare facility but it's way too expensive for those of us on the lower salary to afford. Discovery has so many people expecting or delivering, it would be great to subsidize the daycare a bit more to make it much more affordable

Advice to Management

I don't really know senior management, it would be great to have more of an opportunity to get to know them as they really aren't accessible.

I have been working at Discovery Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

TV at your desk. :) Volunteer opportunities. Great benefits. Lots of learning seminars, company-wide presentations. Easy to move around the company. Global opportunities for work.

    Cons

It's hard to get in the door - you need to know someone. The company can be very top-down, but if you're willing to knock on doors to get your ideas heard, you can make a difference.

    Advice to Management

Let your junior people lead once in a while!

  2. Aimless management and with little innovation

I worked at Discovery Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pretty good pay and benefits. Flexible hours depending on the department.

    Cons

Many managers get promoted due to time served or the right connections but lack creativity, leadership skills or motivation. In addition, continual restructuring means that your department and/or boss can change any day. As for innovation, the people who head up most departments have been there for a long time so they have no interest in changing the way things are done.
