I worked at Discovery Communications full-time

Pros

Large company means good benefits for parents/couples/families. With so many different departments, there are a lot of good people and bosses to work for and with, it's just a matter of finding the right fit.

Cons

Constant change and reorganizations. Constant struggle to balance creative content with needs of advertisers. Very slow/conservative with technological change. There doesn't seem to be much of a culture or pride outside of a few pockets here and there.

I have been working at Discovery Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Challenging work environment Intelligent management who constantly pushes you do perform better Great Teamwork Minimal Supervision on projects

    Cons

Ironically too corporate compared to the content the company produces Not as innovative as it could potentially be Work environment is drab and not conducive to being creative Not that many incentives to perform better Lots of workload for ok pay

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more team events which encourage employees to perform better and think outside of the box. Feels very corporate and suffocating at times. The atmosphere the marketing group works within is not creative at all and unfortunately everyone is told that they need to make more $$ for the company with no direct incentive for employees themselves. Management needs to incentivise better and encourage growth from within
