I have been working at Disney Store part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - You get to use your nerdy Disney knowledge
    - Bringing a story to life with the guests (especially when I get to role play with the kids)
    - Love when I make a child's/adult's day when I find a product they've been wanting.
    - Great benefits (complimentary park tickets, discounts, 401k, medical, etc).
    - All of the Cast Members are friendly and keep things fun
    - Positive working environment
    - New employees get to experience interactive training/disney knowledge sessions.

    Cons

    - Shifts, on average, are usually 4 hours long. Occasionally you may work 6-8 hours, but that depends on business.
    - During the times after the holidays, business is very slow and sometimes you may work 0-8 hours a week.

Do not work for Disney Store just because you are a Disney fan

I have been working at Disney Store part-time

    Pros

Great benefits, such as free access to parks.
    Great discount.
You get a lot of great information about the company's actions and plans (not secret or illegal or anything).
You are given a lot of freedom in your role, because Disney trusts its employees very highly.
You have a lot of opportunity to interact with all elements of Disney and people who like Disney.

    Cons

It is a very strenuous work environment. It is not the same experience as working the the parks, which is probably the greatest work environment that any Disney fan could ask for.

Your schedule is unstable. Some days you have "on-calls" where you have to call just to see if you are working that day. And then if you aren't, then you have nothing to do that day, because you weren't allowed to make plans.

You regularly have to complete a "stage set" where you spend all night rearranging the store to put out new products. It sounds simple and fun, however, you are given minimal time and resources and you often work until 1 or 2 am. Sometimes they give you no after-hours to use, and you have to spend all week rearranging the store during business hours. Sometimes the company decides that they want things moved around a that day, so you're always scrambling to keep up with the company's decisions.

You're rarely recognized for your performance, and most feedback is negative. This is mostly due to the high standards of the company, but it can really affect you're motivation.

There is a lot expected of you as far as how you act and treat guests. This is no surprise, as it is effective in how Disney represents the brand image. It is fun to interact with guests and do what the actual job involves. However, you are also constantly given tasks which interfere with normal business processes. It makes it difficult to fulfill all the primary expectations of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Home Base does not seem to communicate with each other very well. By the time information gets to the stores, it is incomprehensible. Everyone is constantly confused and hesitant to act on the instructions given from Home Base, because they are very inconsistent or vague.
