I worked at Dixon Hughes Goodman as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

A wide range of clients and work.
Pretty large office, but still a small feel.
Richmond office managing director is awesome

Cons

Very little interaction among the employees in the office. Nobody seemed to like each other.
Central VA managing director is far from awesome.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move offices. Innsbrook is old news. Move downtown with the big boys.

I have been working at Dixon Hughes Goodman full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity to work with really smart people. At times many are smarter than other Big four employees.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive, nor are the benefits. Management should really try to be more competitive to retain staff. Also should improve FAR group.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase pay and benefits. Make an effort to retain top performers.

I have been working at Dixon Hughes Goodman full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

DHG takes recruiting very seriously and does a great job of getting people here that are easy to work with and extremely friendly. They have very fair/competitive pay and offer some pretty great benefits.

    Cons

No one ever gets fired - sometimes people get here and it becomes obvious they are not the right fit for the job (because they can't do the work, they never show up, they are unprofessional in front of clients, or they're just unreliable), but they still get to work here for as long as they like and make it miserable for everyone that has to pick up their slack!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a better infrastructure for the behind the scenes departments. The bonus program guidelines should come out before the year begins, not six months into the year. Evaluations should be available weeks after they're completed, not months after. And the IT support leaves quite a bit to be desired.
