I worked at Dolby full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Interesting products, amazing brand, great engineers. Good opportunities, often missed.

Cons

Totally don't understand marketing. So that sales control everything. Huge swings of policy based on the whims of the top management.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about what you are doing. Remember that ingredient brands are effectively consultancy businesses and so trust staff and build on that trust by encouraging open decision making. Salaries are currently based on the 'bonus' of working for the brand - that is no longer a policy, it is slow suicide.

    I have been working at Dolby full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great technology, smart people, off-Fridays

    Cons

    No work life balance with management having no regard for weekends, vacation or
    Even sick leave. Negative, demotivating environment which appears to reward mediocrity and stifles creativity. Domineering self appointed CMO who does not have a clue about marketing and a woefully inexperienced leadership team who make one bad decision after another.

    Hire a credible CMO, invest in marketing and LISTEN to employees

    I worked at Dolby full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Cool technology
    - Company has good brand recognition
    - Every other Friday off
    - Some ok perks

    Cons

    - Lack of career development - promotions seem to be rare; some employees have been individual contributors (in the same position) for 10 years
    - The Annual Review process is done hastily and not much constructive feedback is provided
    - Some co-workers are brilliant and confident, whereas some of the employees are abysmal (it probably happens in all companies) - not sure how they got past HR and managerial screening
    - C-level executives and VPs lack ability to inspire and motivate employees - there is no passion here

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Work with other executives to ensure career development is taken seriously
    - Provide clearer vision around career advancement and promotion opportunities
    - CEO - please rally the troops
