If you like to work in a highly controled environment, this is the place for you.

Beaver Falls, PA

Current Employee – been working at Dollar General full-time for more than 7 years

ProsI love working with the people and the customers. I have an excellent DM who is there to help me do my best.

ConsEverything you do is control by home office-the hours you get, the schedule, the air conditioning, the managers work a lot of hours (60-70) only one day off, only holiday the store is closed is Christmas. You are micro-managed, safety is an issue, Workers are in store at least 4 hours by themselves,

Advice to Senior ManagementLet the managers be managers-they know the workload the best (not some anonymous person making up a schedule to fit the hours. Hire more people (the customers would love to have more people to wait on them). Make the stores cooler in summer (customer do not like to shop in a hot store-if the store is hot the get in and get out--if it is cooler they will look at everything and buy more). Upper management (I mean from CEO on down) have more meetings with the store managers and listen to what their concerns are and their ideas (managers have very good ones if you would listen). Send your Regional Directors in to a store to work the managers job for a while--that way they know what its like to work with no control at all-they would have a better understanding and not try to make a manager cry every time they come in(some RD have no idea what it's like to run on little hours.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
