Pros

Individual managers are usually great people who enjoy their jobs. Cashiers have the opportunity to work with customers all day long.

Cons

Stocking occurs during the regular work day, causing stress on employees trying to meet unrealistic productivity goals while also being expected to drop everything and assist customers. Policies of identifying oneself at other stores because employees are dishonest. The base pay is less than most individuals can afford to take for the amount of work done.

Advice to Management

Take care of your starting employees. For some, this isn't just a part time job that gives extra bucks. Some folks need this paycheck to pay the bills and support a family.

    Pros

Respectable product at a reasonable price, available in nearly every market needed Dollar stores, in general, are profiting nicely in this economic downturn. Why they aren't sharing it in Payroll Percentages above single digits for staffing is beyond me!

    Cons

Minimal labor hours allotted for quality customer service, store production essentials such as freight and resets. Intro wages attract low level potential employees; nearly impossible to terminate even for cause. Old and/or dilapidated building with maintenance issues. No direct access to environmental controls - e.g. store is too hot or too cold. Preponderance of POP systems failure - poor customer service, frustration for employees.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that you will have the full support of your DM to perform essential functions within your store, especially with regard to employees. The culture of "Coach Up" has more to do with legalities to ensure no toe hold for lawsuits when terminating under-performing personnel. Ask the hard questions prior accepting a position offered. Take a hard look at previous year's growth, shrink, productivity. This company has a high turn over rate among its hourly employees. Employee theft is DGs biggest concern and liability. Unless you happen to be applying to a polite and small community, be prepared to live at work for 3 - 6 months. These stores are open long hours, 24/7/365. The deliberately LOW PERCENTILE ALLOTTED for staffing (less than double digits) means you - the store manager - will be spending a lot of time Alone at the store (dollar stores, in general tending to attract the less-than desirable employee and customer.)

    Pros

Early morning shift. good hours, good pay. friendly environment, fast paced

    Cons

a lot of walking, bending, lifting,

    Advice to Management

if management was more personal and communicated with employees about changing processes. management needs to ask questions to the employees who are on the floor, making sure the correct merchandise gets shipped.
