    Pros

Good people in all functions. Lots of experience. Opportunity to make an impact is presented to everyone.

    Cons

Tough business with all the competition and the rapidly changing technology. Traditional RAID faces huge challenges from other data protection schemes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to work on becoming more marketing driven as opposed to engineering led.

I have been working at Dot Hill full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Not a huge company, so relatively easy to stand out. Good benefits despite the small size. Fantastic growth and leadership opportunities, regardless of experience level. Easy to move around within the company, and the product incorporates many different technologies so it is relatively easy to find where you fit. Not stingy; upper management believes in engineers having the best tools and the best working environment and they are not afraid to make financial investments in such. Company has seen large growth in the past few years due to good decisions by upper management and executive staff; and the growth seems likely to continue.

    Cons

Compensation slightly lower than average, can be really stressful at times (especially right before product release). Training is effectively non-existent, so I hope you learn fast. (Very) small percentage of senior-level+ engineers seem to have achieved their job titles by a long employment at Dot Hill rather than through technical skills and leadership, so there is a mismatch between job title and level of responsibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be watchful of employee burn-out. It happens a lot and has caused people to leave in the past. Also, get rid of unproductive engineers; they promote a culture of laziness and mediocrity and stain the otherwise great company image.
