I have been working at Douglas County School District (CO) full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

DCSD is made up of a great community of students, families, teachers, staff, and surrounding community members. The DCSD has a long history of successful growth, both in size and educating students from preschool/ kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Cons

DCSD currently has the highest paid superintendent in the state of Colorado, with the lowest morale for staff and students. DCSD has an unprecedented $83 fund balance, while continuing to make cuts that significantly impact students and their learning in a negative way. DCSD has a power-hungry Board of Education who are unaware of the needs and priorities of the community they serve

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the madness! Work to mend the broken relationships by respectfully reaching out to teachers and staff to help repair the damage that has been done.

Current Employee - Substitute Teacher in Highlands Ranch, CO

I have been working at Douglas County School District (CO) part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great teachers and kids, supportive families, innovative teaching strategies, hard working school administrators.

    Cons

Extremely oppressive district administrators led by a politically charged Board of Ed. Low teacher morale, low compensation, lack of professional development opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to teachers and parents who request a big change in the reform agenda. Be respectful of your many opponents, be more fiscally responsible and transparent. Operate in the open rather than in executive session behind closed doors.

I have been working at Douglas County School District (CO) full-time

    Pros

Great students and staff to work with.

    Cons

Administration above the building level appears to have a totally separate and ultra-conservative agenda involving destroying neighborhood schools so parents will accept private and charter schools. The School Board tried to establish tax-funded voucher to be used at private, religious schools, but this is blocked by the ACLU and is currently tied up in appeals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go somewhere else - you've already done enough damage here and in Tucson.
